What can I expect during an evaluation for my depression?

Dr. Gerard is unlike any doctor you’ve ever visited. She puts you and your health above all else. She takes the time to listen to your concerns and symptoms, and she asks detailed questions to better understand what may have triggered your depression. She may also order various tests to further assess your health and determine if there’s an underlying health condition that may be responsible for your depression.

What are functional medicine approaches to depression?

Functional medicine is a medical specialty that focuses on treating the underlying cause of an illness or disease. With traditional medicine, physicians usually prescribe medication to help you manage symptoms. With Dr. Gerard, her goal isn’t just focused on your symptoms, but finding and treating the root cause of your depression to resolve the mood disorder altogether.

Her functional medicine approach to depression may include a combination of:

  • Antidepressants
  • Talk therapy
  • Diet modification
  • Nutritional supplements
  • Exercise program
  • Tools to help you manage stress

To better meet your needs, she also offers online counseling.

Dr. Gerard wants to put you in charge of your health, not make you dependent on medication.
